Garden of Earthly Delights
What happens when cultures meet? Conflict, yes. But also the creation of new perspectives on life, the invention of new techniques, the birth of new languages.
Jheronimus Bosch received a commission from king Philip I of Castile. Through Spain, he got inspired by Arabic science. He read books with new, unknown symbols. He mixed these symbols with the European tradition of painting and invented a totally new imagery.
We recreated three leaded windows to tell this story. Windows which Jheronimus Bosch once created for the St. Jans Cathedral but which got destroyed in the Beeldenstorm of 1566. These windows open a new perspective on the work of Jheronimus Bosch and the fruitful meeting of cultures.
